5. Hand-Poured Botanical Soy Wax Candles
Creating your own hand-poured soy candles allows you to curate personalized scent profiles and visually stunning visual details for your home. Soy wax is clean-burning, biodegradable, and holds fragrance oils exceptionally well. Begin by setting up a double boiler on your stove to gently melt natural soy wax flakes to approximately 185°F (85°C). While the wax melts, prepare your glass jars or ceramic vessels by adhering cotton or wooden wicks to the bottom center using wick stickers.
Once the wax reaches the optimal temperature, stir in high-quality essential oils or fragrance blends—such as lavender and cedarwood, or amber and vanilla—stirring gently for two full minutes to combine. Allow the wax to cool slightly before carefully pouring it into your prepared jars, leaving room at the top. Just as the top layer of wax begins to turn opaque and semi-solid, gently place tiny dried botanicals, like miniature rosebuds, heather sprigs, or dried orange slices, around the perimeter away from the wick. Allow the candles to cure for at least 48 hours before lighting for a clean, fragrant burn.
