6. Textured Arch Canvas Wall Art

6

Minimalist textured art has taken the modern interior design world by storm, offering an easy way to add depth, dimension, and tactile interest to blank walls without breaking the bank. Using off-the-shelf lightweight spackling paste or joint compound, a stretched canvas, and a notched trowel, you can create gallery-worthy artwork in just an afternoon. Begin by laying your canvas flat on a protected work surface.

Scoop a generous amount of spackling compound directly onto the canvas. Using a flexible putty knife, spread the compound evenly across the surface to a thickness of about an eighth of an inch. While the paste is still wet, take a notched architectural trowel or a custom-cut piece of cardboard with serrated teeth, and drag it through the compound in sweeping arching motions or geometric waves. The teeth will leave behind precise, sculptural ridges. Allow the piece to dry thoroughly for 24 hours. You can leave the artwork in its natural chalky white state, or paint over it with matte acrylic tones like cream, sage, or warm sand for an ultra-sophisticated look.
