12. Scandi-Style Wooden Bead Garland with Tassels

12

Simple, stylish, and endlessly versatile, Scandinavian-inspired wooden bead garlands add a layer of natural texture when draped over books on a coffee table, coiled inside a decorative bowl, or hung over a fireplace mantel. This quick project requires only natural, unfinished wooden beads in various sizes, strong jute twine, and a pair of scissors.

Cut a length of jute twine roughly 4 to 5 feet long, taping one end with masking tape to create a rigid needle for easy threading. Alternate threading different bead sizes—such as 20mm, 15mm, and 10mm—in a repeating rhythmic pattern onto the twine. Leave several inches of slack on both ends to ensure the garland remains flexible and drapes fluidly. To make the end tassels, wrap jute twine repeatedly around a piece of thick cardboard roughly 5 inches wide. Slide the wrapped bundle off, tie the top securely to the end of your garland, wrap another piece of twine around the neck of the bundle to create the tassel head, and cut the bottom loops open. Trim the ends evenly for a clean finish.
