7. Celestial Brass Moon Phase Wall Hanging
Channel cosmic energy and vintage elegance with a hand-crafted brass moon phase wall hanging. This project uses thin sheet brass or pre-cut brass discs to depict the changing cycles of the moon, connected by delicate metallic chain. To craft this piece from scratch, draw out the phases of the moon—full, gibbous, half, and crescent—onto paper to use as templates. Trace the shapes onto 36-gauge brass sheet metal using a stylus or permanent marker.
Carefully cut out the shapes using metal shears or heavy craft scissors. Smooth out any sharp edges using fine steel wool, which also gives the brass a lovely brushed, satin texture. Punch a small hole at the top and bottom of each moon shape using a metal hole punch tool. Using small brass jump rings, attach lengths of fine brass chain between each moon phase in sequential order, ending with a small brass chime or crystal drop at the bottom. Hang the finished mobile from a brass rod or a piece of drift wood, allowing the metallic surfaces to catch and reflect light throughout the day.
