15. Textured Arch Wood Arch Bookends

15

Keep your favorite novels organized with custom-built wooden arch bookends that bring geometric elegance and modern architecture to your bookshelves. This project utilizes simple wooden offcuts or MDF blocks, transforming them into stylish heavy-duty functional art pieces using basic woodworking tools and paint.

Cut two matching rectangular wooden blocks from a thick pine board or maple block. Use a compass to mark a smooth semi-circular arch across the top edge of each block. Using a jigsaw or band saw, carefully cut along the marked curved lines. Sand the cut surfaces smooth using coarse to fine sandpaper, ensuring the curved tops are completely uniform. To give the bookends substantial weight so they don’t slide under heavy books, drill small holes into the base and insert lead weights or attach non-slip rubber grip pads. Finish the bookends with rich wood stains like walnut or oak, or coat them in bold color-blocked acrylic paint like burnt orange, ochre, or forest green.
