Spellbound Apothecary Bottles

5

Recreate the look of an ancient witch’s kitchen by transforming ordinary dollar store glass jars, condiment bottles, and vases into antique apothecary bottles. Gather a variety of glass containers in different shapes and sizes. To give them an aged, dusty look, paint the bottles with a mixture of matte acrylic paint and a pinch of baking soda, which adds a gritty, stone-like texture. Alternatively, you can coat them in a translucent amber or dark green glass stain. Next, design or print vintage-style labels with creepy titles like “Spider Venom,” “Extract of Toad,” or “Graveyard Dust.”

Singe the edges of the paper labels with a lighter to make them look scorched and worn, then adhere them to the bottles using Mod Podge. To take this craft to the next level, seal the tops of the bottles with real corks and drip black or purple sealing wax over the lids. Wrap twine or jute around the necks of the bottles and tie on small charms, like miniature silver skulls or plastic spiders. Arrange these bottles on a wooden shelf or inside a glass cabinet alongside old leather-bound books and dried herbs to create a captivating, mystical vignette.
