Eerie Bleeding Pillar Candles
Candlelight is essential for setting a moody Halloween atmosphere, but standard white pillar candles can feel a bit mundane. With a quick trip to the dollar store, you can turn basic white candles into a gory, gothic masterpiece. For this project, purchase several inexpensive white pillar candles of varying heights and a few red taper candles. Place the white pillars on a protective surface, such as a sheet of wax paper or aluminum foil. Light one of the red taper candles and hold it at an angle over the white pillars, allowing the melting red wax to drip slowly down the sides of the white candles.
As the red wax cascades over the edges, it creates a highly realistic “bleeding” effect that looks incredibly dramatic. You can control the intensity of the drips by adjusting the angle of the red candle and letting the wax pool in certain areas. For an extra touch of macabre elegance, push a few black upholstery tacks or miniature plastic coffin nails into the sides of the pillars before the wax fully cools. Arrange these bleeding candles on a silver tarnished tray from the dollar store, surrounded by faux autumn leaves or dark moss, to create an enchanting mantel display that looks like it belongs in a haunted mansion.
