Victorian Ghost Portrait Gallery
Create a gallery wall that looks like it belongs in a haunted estate by transforming cheap dollar store frames and printed vintage photos. Purchase several plastic frames in various ornate shapes and sizes. Spray paint them all black, then lightly rub metallic gold or silver wax over the raised details to give them a distressed, antique finish. Next, find copyright-free vintage portraits online and print them out in black and white or sepia tones.
To give these portraits a ghostly twist, use a white colored pencil or a diluted white acrylic paint to softly blend out the eyes of the subjects, making them look hollow and possessed. Alternatively, you can cut out the eyes entirely and place a piece of black paper behind the photo. Arrange the framed portraits in a tight cluster on a prominent wall in your home. Under dim lighting, these antique-looking figures will appear to watch your guests as they move around the room, creating an incredibly atmospheric experience.
