Gothic Glam Velvet Pumpkins

3

If your Halloween aesthetic leans more toward chic and sophisticated rather than cheap and gaudy, these DIY velvet pumpkins are the perfect project for you. Start by purchasing cheap, brightly colored plastic or foam pumpkins from the dollar store. To elevate them into luxurious autumn decor, you will need some stretch velvet fabric in deep, rich tones like emerald green, royal purple, midnight black, and burnt orange. Cut the fabric into circles that are large enough to fully wrap around each pumpkin. Remove the plastic stems from the pumpkins and set them aside for later.

Wrap the fabric tightly around the pumpkin, tucking the raw edges into the top hole where the stem used to be. Secure the fabric with hot glue or a rubber band. To give the pumpkins a realistic, ribbed texture, wrap embroidery floss or thick twine around the pumpkin from top to bottom, pulling tightly to create defined sections. Finally, hot glue the original stem back into place, or swap it out for a real dried pumpkin stem or a piece of driftwood for an organic touch. These plush, velvet-covered pumpkins look incredibly high-end and make a gorgeous addition to any fall tablescape or tiered tray.
