Paper Plate Yarn Weaving Webs
Paper plate weaving is an exceptional way to introduce children to the basic concepts of textile arts while creating a beautiful piece of holiday decor. Start by taking a standard paper plate and cutting small, evenly spaced notches around the outer rim. Next, poke a hole directly through the center of the plate. Thread a piece of yarn through the center hole, tape it securely to the back, and then guide the yarn out to one of the notches, back to the center, and out to the next notch. This creates the “spokes” of your spider web. Once the spokes are secure, tie a new, long piece of yarn to the center and let your child weave it over and under the spokes in a continuous circle. This process is deeply engaging and helps children understand patterns and structural design. Using a bright neon yarn against a dark painted paper plate makes the weaving pop, creating a striking visual that looks wonderful displayed on a classroom wall or home mantle.
