Symmetric Paint Squish Webs
This activity is a delightful combination of sensory play and a lesson in symmetry. Also known as “blot art,” this technique is incredibly easy and yields surprisingly beautiful, symmetrical spider webs. Start by folding a sheet of black construction paper in half and then unfolding it. Have your children squeeze lines of white, silver, or glow-in-the-dark paint onto one side of the crease, radiating outward from the center fold to mimic half of a spider web. While the paint is still wet, fold the other half of the paper over and have your child gently smooth their hands over the paper, squishing the paint inside. When they peel the paper open, they will be amazed to find a perfectly symmetrical, mirrored spider web. You can add a pinch of fine glitter to the wet paint before folding for an extra touch of holiday sparkle. It is a quick, mess-friendly project that offers instant gratification.
