Chalk Pastel Smudge Webs
Chalk pastels are a wonderful medium for kids because of their soft, blendable texture and vibrant colors. For this project, you will need black construction paper and bright white or light blue chalk pastels. Have your children draw a simple spider web in the center of the paper using firm, thick chalk lines. Once the web is drawn, show them how to use their fingertips, a cotton ball, or a blending stump to gently smudge the chalk lines outward. This technique creates a beautiful, ghostly halo effect around the web, making it look as though it is shrouded in a mysterious, autumn fog. To keep the chalk from smudging further once the artwork is finished, you can spray it lightly with a cheap aerosol hairspray, which acts as an excellent DIY fixative, preserving their spooky masterpiece for years to come.
