15. Foil-Relief Mummy Portraits
Create a stunning, metallic piece of art using kitchen aluminum foil and cardboard. This unique texture-based craft yields a high-contrast, shining mummy portrait that looks like an ancient artifact discovered in a spooky, forgotten tomb.
Cut out a rectangular piece of sturdy cardboard to serve as the canvas. Have your child draw a simple mummy outline on the cardboard, then trace over the lines with thick lines of school glue or hot glue (with adult help). Once the glue has dried into raised ridges, wrap a sheet of aluminum foil over the entire board, gently pressing it down around the glue lines to reveal the raised mummy pattern. Rub black shoe polish or diluted black acrylic paint over the foil and gently wipe it away, leaving the dark pigment in the crevices for an antique, metallic finish.
