15. Pinecone Turkeys
As Thanksgiving approaches, crafting a pinecone turkey is a wonderful way to involve toddlers in the holiday preparations. This craft combines natural materials with colorful craft supplies to create a cute, festive table decoration. It is highly beneficial for practicing fine motor skills, as toddlers must carefully place and stick feather shapes into the scales of the pinecone, encouraging precision and hand strength.
Gather large, open pinecones. Cut out colorful feather shapes from red, orange, and yellow felt or construction paper, or use real craft feathers. Help your toddler tuck and glue these feathers into the back scales of the pinecone to form the turkey’s fan-like tail. Cut a small head and neck shape from brown felt, add a tiny orange beak and red wattle, and glue it to the front of the pinecone. Your toddler will love seeing their turkey come to life.
