Dancing Lawn Witches
Capture a sense of dark, ritualistic magic by staging a circle of faceless witches holding hands and dancing around a central point in your yard. Construct these witches using long wooden garden stakes driven into the ground as the spine. Place a balloon or a foam ball wrapped in black garbage bags or fabric at the top for the head, and drape long, tattered black cloaks or weed-barrier fabric over the frame to create the body silhouette.
Tie the sleeves of the cloaks together so the figures appear to be holding hands in a perfect circle. In the center of their circle, place a glowing lantern, a small cauldron, or a pile of glowing embers. Because these figures have no defined faces and are made of lightweight fabric, they will sway and flutter gracefully in the autumn wind, creating an eerie, lifelike dance that is both beautiful and unsettling.
