The Floating Coffin

10

Add a chilling, levitating prop to your front lawn that defies gravity and sparks curiosity. Build a classic, old-school toe-pincher coffin using lightweight corrugated plastic sheets or thin plywood, painted to look like rotting, dark wood. Mount the coffin onto a sturdy, hidden black metal post driven deep into the ground, or suspend it from tree branches using strong, thin steel cables, making it appear to float several feet above the grass.

Keep the lid of the coffin slightly propped open, revealing a glowing red or purple light emanating from within. You can place a skeleton hand reaching out from the crack, or have a fog machine hose plumbed into the bottom so a steady stream of thick mist spills out and falls to the ground. This levitating optical illusion is a showstopper that adds a professional, theme-park quality to your residential Halloween display.
