18. Distressed Cheesecloth Spirits
Create ethereal, floating ghosts that look incredibly artistic rather than cartoonish. To make these, create a temporary mold using a balloon balanced on a plastic bottle, with wire coat hangers shaped into arms. Drape cheap white cheesecloth over the mold. In a large bowl, mix equal parts school glue and water, or use fabric stiffener. Drench the cheesecloth in the mixture, drape it back over your mold, and style the folds to look like a floating shroud. Once completely dry and stiff, pop the balloon and remove the wire frame. You will be left with a rigid, translucent, freestanding ghost shape that can be hung from the ceiling or placed on a tabletop with a tea light underneath.
