20. Celestial Sun and Moon Wall Hangings
Celebrate the mystical side of the season by crafting a celestial sun and moon wall hanging. This project combines clay sculpting, painting, and jewelry assembly to create a beautiful, vertical mobile that sways gently in the breeze. It is a wonderful way for teens to explore spiritual, astrological themes and create a piece of art that looks beautiful year-round, not just during the Halloween season.
Using air-dry clay, roll out and cut shapes representing the different phases of the moon, along with a central, stylized sun face. Use a straw to punch a small hole in the top and bottom of each clay piece before they dry, which will allow you to link them together later. Once the clay is completely dry, paint the pieces with a mix of midnight blue, deep purple, and shimmering gold paints. Once dry, use metallic jump rings or rustic hemp cord to link the clay shapes together in a vertical chain, ending with a beautiful brass bell or a polished crystal prism at the bottom that catches and scatters the sunlight.
