16. Velvet Pumpkin Pillows

To make a pumpkin pillow, cut a circular piece of soft velvet fabric (deep orange, emerald green, or plum work wonderfully). Using a needle and strong embroidery thread, sew a simple running stitch all the way around the outer edge of the circle. Pull the thread tight to gather the fabric into a cup shape, then fill it firmly with polyester fiberfill stuffing. Pull the thread completely tight to close the opening and secure it with a knot. To create the classic pumpkin ridges, wrap embroidery thread from the bottom center, up the outside, and down into the top center, pulling tightly to indent the fabric. Repeat this five or six times around the pumpkin, then hot-glue a real dried pumpkin stem or a rolled piece of brown felt to the top center.
