18. Spellbook Jewelry Boxes
Keep your secret treasures, jewelry, and notes safe inside a spellbook jewelry box that looks like it was plucked straight from an ancient wizard’s library. This craft involves transforming a simple, hollow wooden book box (available at most craft stores) into a leather-bound, weathered tome complete with raised runes, metallic accents, and a velvet-lined interior. It is an incredibly immersive project that allows for endless creativity in designing your book cover.
To create the textured, leather-like cover, use hot glue to draw raised designs—such as pentagrams, crescent moons, or abstract branch patterns—directly onto the wooden box. Cut a piece of brown paper bag or tissue paper, crumple it up to create wrinkles, unfold it, and glue it over the hot glue designs using Mod Podge, pressing it into the crevices to mimic aged leather. Once dry, paint the entire cover with dark brown or black acrylic paint, then lightly buff gold metallic wax or paint over the raised areas to make them pop. Line the inside of the box with adhesive-backed red velvet felt to complete your luxurious, secret spellbook.
