13. Distressed Mirror Decals
Turn an ordinary, inexpensive mirror into a haunting portal to another dimension with distressed mirror decals. This clever DIY allows you to temporarily or permanently transform your bedroom mirror into a spooky masterpiece. By applying custom vinyl decals of ghostly faces, Victorian portraits, or creepy handprints, and then artificially aging the glass, you can create a chilling illusion that will startle and delight anyone who takes a look at their reflection.
To achieve this look, you can purchase pre-made spooky vinyl decals or cut your own out of matte black or frosted vinyl using a craft cutting machine. Clean your mirror thoroughly before applying the decal to the corner or center of the glass. To create the “distressed” look without permanently damaging the mirror, spray a mixture of black acrylic paint and water onto the edges of the glass, then lightly dab it with a dry paper towel to create a dusty, antique grime effect. When you look into the mirror, it will appear as though a ghostly figure is standing directly behind you in the shadows.
