12. The Tournament Rink

The Tournament Rink

Save this one for when you’ve got friends online. The tournament rink is a proper arena with two teams’ colours — I went with red and blue banners — a centre circle, a scoreboard, and a winners’ podium with gold, silver, and iron blocks. We run little tournaments on it: races, obstacle courses, and a game that’s basically tag on ice, which is chaos in the best way. A chest of fireworks waits for the winner, and a trophy case stands in the warming hut. Nothing brings people together like a bit of friendly competition.

Conclusion

That’s the dozen, and if there’s one thing I want you to take from it, it’s this: the ice is the easy part. The boards, the lights, the hut, the cocoa stand — that’s what makes a rink feel like somewhere worth going. Build the rink, then build the world around it. And if you fall over, well, that’s half the fun anyway.
