16. Moroccan Mosaic Tile Mosaic Cat
Capture the vibrant color patterns and intricate geometric symmetry of traditional North African architecture with a Moroccan Mosaic Tile Cat. This project transforms the curved surface of a paper roll into what appears to be a heavy, handcrafted mosaic pillar. Start by painting your paper roll in a warm, terracotta base color to simulate old ceramic mortar.
Using small square punches or scissors, cut hundreds of tiny geometric shapes—diamonds, squares, and triangles—from shimmering metallic foils, iridescent paper, and brightly colored cardstock in cobalt blue, turquoise, coral, and gold. Carefully glue these tiny paper “tiles” onto the roll in repeating arabesque patterns, leaving tiny gaps of the terracotta background visible between them like real grout lines. Once complete, coat the tube in a high-gloss Mod Podge or varnish. The light bounces off the hundreds of angled paper tiles, creating a brilliant jewel-like effect.
