The Ruined Frost-Keep: Forgotten Ice Age Archaeology
Not every grand castle needs to look brand new and pristine. The Ruined Frost-Keep tells a rich, historical story of a once-great kingdom that was swallowed by a sudden ice age, leaving behind crumbling stone towers half-buried under massive glaciers and impaled by growing ice spikes.
To create a believable ruined aesthetic, you need to master block variation and structural decay. Use a heavy mix of cracked stone bricks, mossy stone bricks, cobblestone, and gravel to build fractured walls with chunks missing. Ice spikes should look like they actively invaded the castle, punching through floorboards, fracturing stone towers, and shattering glass windows. Snow layers should be heavily stacked on top of broken walls, roofs, and crumbling arches to make the weather feel oppressive and destructive.
Decorate the interior with decayed remnants of its past glory: cobwebs in the corners, broken banners hanging on threadbare frames, smashed grand tables, and overgrown vegetation that has managed to survive under layers of frost. Lighting should be dim and sparse, relying on glowing lichen, flickering soul torches, and occasional patches of open sky. It is a fantastic build for adventure maps or survival worlds where you want your home to feel like a rediscovered archaeological secret.
