18. Vintage Book Page Spellbooks
Turn old, discarded hardcover books into legendary spellbooks that look like they belong in an ancient wizard’s library. This craft is incredibly fun and allows for a lot of creative freedom. Using hot glue, you and your friends can draw raised designs on the book covers—think mystical eyes, spiderwebs, runes, or abstract organic textures. Once the glue dries, cover the entire book in a layer of mod podge and paper towels, pressing the paper into the crevices to create a wrinkled, leather-like texture.
Paint the textured covers with dark brown, black, and metallic gold paints, wiping away the excess to highlight the raised glue designs. For the pages inside, brush them with a strong mixture of black tea or coffee to age the paper, and write out cryptic spells, potion recipes, or draw mystical illustrations. These heavy, ancient-looking grimoires make spectacular coffee table accents or shelf fillers for the Halloween season.
