12 Minecraft Frostbite Survival Base Ideas for a Freezing Winter World
The first time a Frostbite threw an ice ball at me, I laughed. Then it hit, knocked me back, and I fell straight into powder snow. That’s the new mob in a nutshell — a cold-biome zombie variant from the 2026 Winter Drop, and it’s not just a reskin. Up close it stacks the Freezing effect on you. At range, it throws ice balls that hurt and break fragile decorations. Zombies and husks can even turn into Frostbites after about 30 seconds in powder snow. The full drop is expected in December 2026, but the snapshots are already playable, and I’ve been testing bases against these things for weeks.
1. The Powder Snow Moat

Powder snow is a trap for everyone, Frostbites included — except they’re immune to freezing, which is rude. Still, a moat works. I dug a ring around my base, filled it with powder snow, and put leather boots in a chest by the door so I can cross it safely. Mobs sink, slow down, and get stuck while I pick them off from a snow brick wall. It’s cheap, early-game friendly, and it looks like a normal snowy ditch until something falls in. Just remember where the safe path is. I forgot once. Once was enough.
